Item Effect of yogic relaxation technique on reaction time(SVYASA, 2020) Lopamudra NaikBackground: Human beings receive various types of stimuli in day to day life and respond to them accordingly. The time taken to receive a stimulus, it's processing and giving a response is different for every individual at minute level, in milliseconds. This time interval is called Reaction Time. Various Yogic practices are found to influence the RT of individuals. The objective of this study was to evaluate the immediate effect of deep relaxation technique which is a type of yogic relaxation technique on Auditory and Visual Reaction Time. Method: 115 healthy yoga students from SVYASA Yoga university, between the age group of 20 to 50 years were taken for the study. Pre and post measurements of auditory reaction time and visual reaction time was done. 10 minutes of pre-recorded DRT was given as intervention and immediately after that reaction times were measured. Result: Statistical analysis were carried out using JASP software. There was a significant decline in the ART and VRT observed in the Post DRT condition. Conclusion: The significant decrease in Auditory and Visual Reaction Time shows that DRT helps to increase the awareness and attention of students. R., Bharathi DheviBackground: Research on the effect of Thoppukaranam is limited despite it being practiced as a form of worship to Lord Gaṇapati – the elephant-headed Hindu deity of success - and as a punishment in schools. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Thoppukaranam and Squats on Attention and , state anxiety and state mindfulness. Methods: A randomized self-as-control within subjects design was employed. Eighty participants (40 Girls and 40 Boys) (age = 10 to 15 ±2) completed three testing sessions including baseline, control (Squats) and experimental (Thoppukaranam) sessions. The DLST Test, State Anxiety,Memory-Concentration-(Vascular Digits) and State Mindful Attention Awareness Scale were used to measure cognitive performance and psychological states. Results: Results show that overall while the practice of Squats improved Attention and as well as state mindfulness and decreased state anxiety, the improvement was more significant following the practice of Thoppukaranam. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the effect of Thoppukaranam is to improve cognitive functioning and psychological states.Item Effect of one week integrated approach of yoga therapy intervention on cognitive function in hypertensive patients(S-Vyasa, 2017-01-16) Pallavi, M.Background: Hypertension is a major public health concern and a leading of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In a long run hypertension leads significant impairment in cognition. Yoga is forms of mind-body medicine shown to be effective in cognitive enhancement. Aim: To study the impact of one week Yoga based residential program on cognitive function of hypertensive patients. Methodology: Thirty hypertensive subjects within age range 30-60 years (Mean±SD;57.7±7.74), who visited SVYASA University campus to attend one week residential yoga program for hypertension treatment, were assessed for cognitive function by administering D2 test before and after one week of intervention. Subjects’ having diabetes, any form of psychiatric problems, history of head injury, learning disability were excluded from the study. Paired sample t test was applied to see the pre post differenceItem Immediate effect of bowl sound therapy and mind sound resonace technique on state anxiety and psychomotor performance in healthy volunteers: a self controlled comparative study(S Vyasa, 2015-01-12) Das, DebkumarObjectives: To compare the immediate effect of Bowl sound therapy (BST) with Mind Sound Resonance Technique (MSRT) on state anxiety (SA) and psychomotor performance (PMP) in 30 right handed (19-males &13-females) healthy volunteers with age range 21-34 years (26.96±3.54 years). Methodology: A self-controlled comparative study design was followed. State anxiety and psychomotor performance were assessed using STAI-XI and DLST respectively, before and immediately after each intervention on three consecutive days. Participants practiced BOWL SOUND, MSRT and SR (as a self-control intervention) at the same time for three consecutive days respectively. The sequence of intervention was assigned randomly to the participants. Intervention was given in a quiet dark room, after lunch. Subjects received a training of BOWL SOUND, MSRT and SR for immediate before the data and after data was taken. A trained yoga instructor administered the technique of BOWL SOUND, MSRT to all the subjects. Data was found normally distributed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The changes in the STAI and DLST scores were analysed using paired and independent samples t test and different between test. Results: Within group comparison showed that during BOWL SOUND there was significant improvement in total, net score and reduction wrong score in but there was no significant reduction in anxiety. DLST score (STAI; p=0.81; DLST; p = 0.001**) and MSRT, (STAI p=0.59; DLST p=0.001) During SR, there was no significant change within the group for both STAI (p = 0.094) and DLST scores (p = 0.431). Between groups comparison revealed that STAI scores reduced significantly during MSRT as compared to BOWL SOUND (p=0.467). But there was no significant difference between the groups for DLST scores (p = 0.128). Between groups comparison revealed that STAI scores reduced significantly during MSRT as compared to SR (p=0.066). But there was no significant difference between the groups for DLST scores (p = 0.007**). Conclusion: BOWL SOUND THERAPY and MSRT are effective interventions in improving the psychomotor performance, in which MSRT is more effective than bowl sound therapy.Item Immediate Effect of Trataka on Performance in Stroop Color Word Test(S-VYASA, 2014-07-13) Singh, Prashanth KumarAncient Indian yoga text, Haoha Yoga Pradepika describes six cleansing techniques, which purifies and prepares our body, for the practice of yoga postures, breath regulation and meditation. Yogic visual concentration (traoaka) is one of those. A previous study showed increase in critical flicker fusion (CFF) following yogic visual concentration (traoaka). Hence, present study was planned to assess the immediate effect of yogic visual concentration on cognitive performance. Performance on Stroop color-word test was assessed in thirty healthy male volunteers with ages ranging from 18 to 31 years (group mean age ± S.D., 22.57 ± 3.65) before and after (traoaka) and control session on two separate days. There was a significant improvement in the performance in Stroop color- word test after traoaka compared to control session (RM ANOVA with Bonferroni adjustment P<0.001). Performance on Stroop color-word test was better after traoakacompared to control session suggesting increased selective attention, cognitive flexibility and response inhibition following traoaka.Item Mmediate Effect of Samgita on Attention(S-VYASA, 2014-07-03) Dey, BandanaMusic expresses emotion and feeling through sound patterns.
