    EFFECT OF CYCLIC MEDITATION ON STRESS LEVELS, ANXIETY, AND DEPRESSION IN HIGHER SECONDARY STUDENTS

    BACKGROUND In the current educational landscape, higher secondary students often grapple with immense academic pressures, peer expectations, and future uncertainties. These stressors have led to an alarming rise in psychological concerns such as stress, anxiety, and depression among adolescents, often compromising their academic performance and overall well-being. Addressing these issues through holistic and accessible practices has become increasingly necessary. One such intervention is Cyclic Meditation (CM), a structured yogic technique that blends physical postures with deep relaxation to regulate mental and emotional health. Though previous research has demonstrated CM’s benefits in adult populations, its application and effectiveness among school-going adolescents remain underexplored. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES This study aims to assess the effect of cyclic meditation on the stress, anxiety, and depression of higher secondary students. METHODS Participants and design A total of 62 school Students from VPS High School in Lonavala, Maharashtra, aged 15-18 years. This study will follow a single-group pre-post design. Assessments: Stress: Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) Anxiety: Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21(DASS-21 Depression: Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21(DASS-21 Sleep Quality: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) vi Intervention: Intervention (Cyclic Meditation practice) will be of the duration of 40 minutes and 5 days/week, for one month. CM consists of various steps like IRT (1Min), Centering, Ardhakati chakrasana, QRT (3Min), Vajrasana, Shashankasana, Ustrasana, DRT (14 Min) Results: Statistical analysis revealed significant improvements in three of the four targeted domains: Perceived stress levels decreased substantially (p < .001, Cohen’s d = 1.60), Depression scores showed a significant reduction (p < .001, d = 1.01), Anxiety levels dropped significantly (p < .001, d = 1.00), Sleep quality improved markedly (p < .001, d = 0.74). However, the DASS-21 stress subscale did not show statistically significant improvement (p = 0.108), possibly due to the instrument's sensitivity or the intervention duration. Conclusions: The findings suggest that Cyclic Meditation is an effective intervention for reducing perceived stress, anxiety, and depression, while simultaneously enhancing sleep quality among higher secondary students. Given its accessibility and holistic nature, CM can be feasibly integrated into school wellness programs. Future studies with control groups, longer follow-up periods, and diverse populations are recommended to further validate and expand upon these promising outcomes.     YOGA BASED RELAXATION TECHNIQUE FACILITATES SUSTAINED ATTENTION IN LOW BACK PAIN PATIENTS

    Objective: To investigate the yoga based relaxation technique facilitate on the attention span of back pain patient. Design: Two groups pre-post test design vi Participants: Twenty-two individual pre diagnosed with back pain aged between 30-50 years (group mean, SD; 36±5.26 years, 22 male) were randomized into two groups i.e., yoga (n=11) and control (n=11). The yoga group was given Yoga Based Relaxation Technique (YBRT) one hour daily for 24 days at Gurgoan region, Haryana whereas control group maintained their normal routine. The ethics committee of the University had approved the study which had been registered later in the Clinical Trails Registry of India (CTRI/2018/01/011243). Outcomes: Sustained Attention to Response Task (SART) and Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire (OLBPDQ) were measured on day 1 and day 25. Result The paired sample t-test was showed that there was a significant change from pre to post in pain intensity (p<0.001) and sustained attention (p<0.001) in yoga group compared to control group. Conclusion: The results showed that the yoga based relaxation technique significantly reduced pain and improved sustained attention. This suggests that yoga may reduce pain sensation to the cortical area of the brain which are involved in attention, and facilitate information processing speed after a brief intervention of yoga.

    Part I Obstacles in the Path of Spiritual Practices Part II Immediate Effect of Cyclic Meditation on Fasting Blood Glucose in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients

    Background/Aim: Diabetes is one of the leading non-communicable diseases characterised by deregulation of blood in glucose control. Cyclic Meditation (CM) is one of the advanced yoga techniques developed by S-VYASA University, Bangalore. The main principal of CM is stimulation followed by deep relaxation. Many previous studies have shown that CM corrects the imbalance of the autonomic nervous system (reduces sympathetic tone). The present study was done to see the immediate effect of CM on Fasting Blood Glucose level (FBG) in type II diabetes patients. Materials and Methods: This self as control study recruited 16 patients with established DM2 of > one year ( with or without good control on oral hypoglycaemic agents) registered for a week long inpatient treatment at the holistic health home, Prasahnthi Kutiram, the campus of the yoga university, Bangalore . The Study Group (SG) practiced CM for 40 minutes and Control Group (CG) also practiced Physical exercises (PE) for the same duration of 40 minutes on two different days (days 1 and 6 after admission) in fasting state ( 5:30 AM to7:00 AM) before breakfast. Venous blood samples were collected for glucose estimation immediately before and after the practice of CM and physical exercise. Data were analyzed using the SPSS version 18. Results: The results showed a significant reduction (P=0.002, Wilcoxon matched-pair signed rank test) in FBG immediately after the practice of CM, whereas, some marginal changes were found in PE group which is not significant (P=0.159, paired samples t-test). Conclusion: Immediate practice of CM is effective in reducing the FBG in Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients.
