    Immediate effect of kapalbhati, breath awareness and, running on attention

    Background- Attention is an important component for optimal cognitive functions. Previous studies on yoga showed positive effect on several mental processes including attention, memory, learning abilities etc. However, there is no study evaluated the impact of yoga breathing on attention network task in college going students. Aim- To compare the effect of pre and post of kapalbhati, breath awareness and running on attention. Objectives- Compare the accuracy while performing ANT task in pre and post of running, kapalbhati and breath awareness. Compare the processing speed (reaction time) while performing ANT task in pre and post of running, kapalbhati and breath awareness. Methods and Materials- Thirty one students only male, age ranges from 18 to 30 yearswere recruited and from these 8 samples for breath awareness, 11 sample for running and 11 for kapalbhati were selected in the present study. Statistical Analysis Used- Statistical analysis was done with statistical package of social science (SPSS version 21.0, IBM). Result- The results of the present study showed that the data were normally distributed. The performance was tested for accuracy and reaction time and immediately after 15 minutes of kapalabhati, running and breath awareness practice showed an attention performance is improve. Conclusion- The present study showed an improvement in attention performance immediately after the intervention. This suggests that a brief Kapalabhati, running and breath awareness session has a potential to improve attention performance by enhancing effective learning, sustained attention and memory processes.
