Abstract
Background
This special issue of Child Development focuses on research that informs the development of
interventions that maximize the well-being of at-risk children. In order to have an independent
adult life, one must have Eligible life skills. To cope-up with the different challenges effectively
in day today scenario life skill is very important, that’s depend on individual talents and positive
behavior. There are many such skills, but according to WHO Ten core Life Skills are there. In
the previous studies has been shown major problems in children’s. they are, Self-awareness,
Creative thinking, decision making, Coping with emotion and Coping with stress.
Aim
To effect of pranayama intervention on life skills among middle School Children.
Methodology
Sixty samples were randomly assigned to two groups, experimental group, and control group.
The experimental group practiced pranayama 30min per day for four weeks (five days per week)
while the control group continued with their routine activities. Sixty school students of 9th and
10th standard within the age range of 13 to 16 years who were able to perform Pranayama were
selected for Pranayama intervention. Subjects who are physically challenged and under
medication were excluded. Before intervention and After 4 weeks intervention data collected
based on a life skill questionnaire was developed by Dr.Vranda, 2019. Data were analyzed using
JAPS.
Results
Statistically significant improvement was found in Self-awareness, Creative thinking, decision
making, Coping with emotion and Coping with stress score in yoga group was significantly
lower compared to control group.
Conclusion
One month of Pranayama practice is more beneficial in Self-awareness, Creative thinking,
decision making, Coping with emotion and Coping with stress.
