Abstract
This work began with questions that several of us had as we struggled
to understand the place of our own and our patients’ worldviews in our clinical
work. Collaborative exploration of these issues among colleagues, several
of whom have authored chapters in this volume, led to several presentations
at annual meetings of the American Psychiatric Association. Over the past decade,
these workshops, symposia, and courses have increasingly focused on
the worldview of the clinician as an underappreciated variable in the clinical
encounter. More recently they have also included presentations by psychiatrists
who represent specific worldviews. This book is the published result of
these activities.
